Support the Campaign
This campaign is expected to be primarily self-funded. No one should feel asked or pressured to make a financial contribution. For eligible Ontario residents who independently wish to help with campaign expenses, the basic contribution rules are explained below.
The approach
Support is appreciated. It is never expected.
Some residents may independently wish to help offset the lawful costs of running a municipal campaign. Others may prefer to display a lawn sign, volunteer, tell a neighbour about the campaign—or simply vote.
A financial contribution does not provide special access, influence, recognition or consideration in any future decision at City Hall.
Before contributing
Campaign contributions are governed by Ontario municipal-election law. Eligibility, contribution limits, payment method and record-keeping requirements apply.
If you wish to contribute, please contact the campaign first so the required contributor information can be confirmed and a proper campaign receipt can be issued.
2026 Ontario rules
The basic contribution rules.
The following summarizes the principal rules applying to individual contributions to a municipal council candidate in Ontario.
Ontario residents
Contributions to a candidate may be accepted from individuals who are normally resident in Ontario. Corporations, businesses, trade unions and organizations cannot contribute to a candidate.
Maximum $1,200
An eligible individual may contribute up to $1,200 in total to one municipal council candidate during the campaign period.
$5,000 overall limit
An individual may contribute no more than $5,000 in total to candidates running for offices on the same municipal council.
Cash is limited to $25
Only a contribution of $25 or less may be made in cash. Contributions above $25 must use a method that clearly identifies where the funds came from.
Every contribution is recorded
The campaign must issue a receipt for every contribution and keep the contributor information required by Ontario election rules.
Contributions over $100
If an individual’s cumulative contributions exceed $100, the contributor’s name and address must be reported on the campaign financial statement.

Keep the process simple and properly documented.
The campaign will confirm eligibility and provide the information needed to make and properly record an eligible contribution.

The campaign will provide instructions appropriate to the amount and method of contribution.

Receive a campaign receipt
A campaign receipt will be issued for the contribution. Municipal campaign contributions are not charitable donations and are not tax deductible.
