Priorities
Careful financial decisions, a city that works for residents and public business that is understandable and accountable.
Fiscal Responsibility
Property-tax increases should never be treated as automatic. Council should know the full cost of a proposal, its future operating obligations, the available alternatives and who will ultimately pay before committing public money.
Control Costs
Review spending, compare alternatives and question avoidable long-term obligations before approving the expense.
Strengthen Revenue
Use grants, partnerships, responsible economic growth and public assets to reduce pressure on existing taxpayers.
Report Results
State what was promised, what was spent and whether the completed decision delivered the expected public value.
Community First
Niagara Falls is an international destination, but it is first and foremost home. Tourism and development should contribute to reliable services, sound infrastructure and a good quality of life in the neighbourhoods where people live.
Everyday Services
Give consistent attention to roads, sidewalks, parks, public facilities and the core services residents rely upon.
Local Economy
Encourage investment that creates opportunity, supports local employment and strengthens the municipal tax base.
Neighbourhood Impact
Consider how major decisions affect residents and communities beyond the tourism district.
Transparency & Accountability
Residents should be able to understand what Council is deciding, why it is recommended, what it will cost and how they can participate. Clear information and consistent procedures build trust even when people disagree.
Plain Language
Explain decisions and financial information clearly enough that residents can follow the issue and its consequences.
Fair Process
Apply rules consistently and treat questions, criticism and disagreement with respect.
Public Accountability
Take responsibility for decisions, disclose outcomes and correct course when the evidence requires it.
Three priorities.
One decision standard.
- What will this cost now and in future years?
- How will it affect residents and neighbourhoods?
- Can the decision and its reasoning be clearly explained?
- How will Council measure and report the result?
Set the standard.
Then hold me to it.
I am offering clear standards for how I would approach Council decisions: ask the questions, examine the costs, explain the choice and follow through for residents.
